Barfipelago: Using Twitter to Fight Virus Outbreak

Norovirus can spread among people very, very fast. But not as fast as Twitter. When an outbreak hit the annual Archipelago journalism conference in Victoria, British Columbia in January, attendees and organizers alike used Twitter as their primary means for staying on top of the situation. Norovirus — the umbrella name for a group of viruses that cause stomach flu — is so contagious that sick people needed to be quickly quarantined and treated.
